| How Do My Interests and Skills relate to the Career I am interested in? |

| Learning Context:
1. Students will use the CareerZone CD and/or website to produce a list of skills, tasks, abilities, and knowledge needed for 2 jobs. 2. They will create graphs comparing both careers. 3. Then the student will make a presentation explaining why they chose one job over the other. 4. Students will read, write, listen, and speak for critical analysis and evaluation. 5. They will access, generate, process, and transfer information using appropriate technologies. 6. The students need to know basic reading, writing, and computer skills to complete this project. |
| Procedure:
Students will read and write information gathered from CareerZone about 2 different careers and will display the skills and interests related to both jobs. The teacher will explain how to research a career and enter the data into a spreadsheet template. |
| Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
A spreadsheet template should be created so students can easily create a graph with their data. |
| Materials and Supplies:
1. Access to a computer to show students CareerZone 2. Computer paper and spreadsheet program 3. For classroom presentation, large construction paper |
| Time Required:
1 - 45 minute period to collect data. 1 - 45 minute period to make graphs. 1 - 45 minute period for assessment and presentations. |
| Assessment Tools and Techniques:
The students assessment will consist of observation of research techniques, discussion of the relationship of interest and skills to the chosen career. Clarity and logic of the graph to the students conclusions. Questions from both the teacher and students related to the chosen career should be addressed. |
| Reflections:
This lesson can be used as an introduction to career awareness. CareerZone exploration can be helpful in expanding other units, i.e., courses in geography, where to live, and math using spreadsheets and graphs to display salaries. |
