We're Going On Vacation

Learning Context:
Students will be able to: 1. Use CareerZone to determine career interest using the Interest Wheel. 2. Explore career opportunities. 3. Read and analyze a particular career. 4. Calculate average earnings. 5. Determine percentages pertaining to maintaining a budget. 6. Calculate the cost of the vacation and determine whether or not they will be able to afford the vacation. 7. Use map reading skills. LEARNING STANDARDS: 1. English Language Arts: #1, 3, 4 2. Health, Physical Education, & Home Economics: #3 3. Career Development & Occupational Studies: #1 4. Mathematics, Science, & Technology: #1, 2, 3, 7

Procedure:
Students will: 1. Use CareerZone for self-knowledge and exploration. 2. Brainstorm careers. 3. Calculate average salary and estimated cost of trip. Teachers will: 1. Show slides of travel destinations in New York State. 2. Explain the CareerZone website 3. Provide students with the support needed to complete the project.

Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
Students will need to relocate to the computer lab to provide one computer per student.

Materials and Supplies:
Students: 1. Maps of New York State and average cost of travel expenses (provided by teacher) 2. Calculators Teachers: 1. Sonic View 2. Slides of New York State

Time Required:
Students will need 2-3 weeks for the project.

Assessment Tools and Techniques:
1. Peer rating using students composed questions 2. Rubric for correct math methods and procedures
