| Learning Context:
1. Students will use CareerZone to research an occupation they might be interested in entering. 2. Students will need to have a familiarity with computer skills, have either use of the Internet or have available the CareerZone CD-ROM. | Procedure:
Students will: 1. Use the CareerZone CD-ROM or assess CareerZone through the Internet. 2. Respond to 12 occupational questions within their job cluster and compile a research paper on a specific occupation. 3. Create or locate photographs/pictures from magazines related to the occupation and include them in their project, either by decorating their cover sheet or inserting them inside their project. The teacher will: 1. Provide samples of previously (or teacher prepared) Occupational Research Projects for students to view. 2. Explain the term "Career Cluster" to students by discussing the CareerZone posters. 3. Spend at least two full classroom periods demonstrating how to use the CareerZone program, or how to successfully access the program on the Internet. 4. Permit the students to explore CareerZone before beginning the project. 5. Provide technical assistance to the students as they work on their project. |
| Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
There should be an equal number of computers to accommodate individual students. Also, aides should be available to accommodate the needs of Resource students. Instructions should be available to each student to use as a guideline. Instructions and procedure of project should also take place in a room which has enough computers to accommodate each student. |

| Time Required:
PLANNING: two planning periods IMPLEMENTATION: allow six weeks and extend time for Resource students ASSESSMENT: Students will use checklist (less than 20 minutes)& self - assessment (20 minutes). The teacher assessment varies depending upon length of individual projects, but in general, allow 10 minutes per project. |

| Reflections:
This lesson can be adapted for use in Introduction to Occupation or Vocational classes. This project also aligns with District CDEP (Comprehensive District Educational Program) through the use of technology in the classroom, Language Arts, and inclusion for Resource students. It also meets the goals of Family and Consumer Science Eighth grade Entrepreneurship project by connecting with career exploration. |
