Learning Context:
1. Students choose a job of interest among the jobs available for a Home and Careers class business. Students use CareerZone and O*Net to research careers. 2. Using CareerZone and O*Net enables students to read, understand and critically analyze information (ELA #1,3). 3. Using CareerZone enables students to explore career options and relate personal skills, aptitudes, and abilities (CDOS #1). 4. Students will continue to expand reading, understanding, and critically analyze in all curricular areas. 5. Students need to know how to read, use the computer and critically analyze information. LEARNING STANDARDS: ELA #1, 3 CDOS #1

Procedure:
1. The students choose a job of interest among the jobs available in their class business. 2. They then research the job using CareerZone and O*Net. The research provides the background required during the subsequent job interview. In essence, the answer to the question -SO WHY DO YOU WNAT TO BE A(N)_________? The teacher/counselor/work experience coordinator provides support, encouragement, and assistance as needed.

Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
Assistance will be available as needed.

Materials and Supplies:
STUDENTS: 1. Ffolder to hold job research, cover letter, resume, and application TEACHERS/COUNSELORS/WORK EXPERIENCE COORDINATORS: 1. List of available jobs and applicants

Time Required:
1. Students utilize classroom time to print the job description using CareerZone and O Net. 2. Student's performance at job interview determines his/her success.

Assessment Tools and Techniques:
Assessment is authentic job interview.

Reflections:
After students are hired for various careers, they run their class business for 3 days. Success is measured in part by the profit they earn and the job satisfaction they experience. Team building, trust, and cooperative problem solving are critical components. Students would benefit from sharing personal experiences with others. This sharing could be formal, informal, written, oral, visual, and/or auditory.
