SHOW ME THE MONEY

Learning Context:
1. Students will view a video on careers, complete an interest survey, research a chosen career, and make a presentation. 2. This is a continuation of previous lessons using CareerZone designed for 11th and 12th grade students or students who already have narrowed down their career choices. 3. Students need to choose a career to explore. 4. Students need to complete a survey. 5. Students need to make a class presentation. 6. Students should have a career portfolio in progress to which this should be added. LEARNING STANDARDS: ELA #1,3,4 CDOS #1,2,3B MST #2

Procedure:
1. The teacher introduces the video "Career Self-Assessment Where Do You Fit" (25 minutes). 2. Students view video and complete the corresponding worksheet. 3. Teacher leads class discussion to summarize information on worksheets. 4. Students complete IDENTIFY YOUR INTEREST GROUP survey and compile the results following the directions. 5. Using individual survey results as a guide, students will proceed to CareerZone and research a chosen career, find information on wages, necessary education and training, and job outlook. 6. Students will complete the SHOW ME THE MONEY questionnaire. 7. Students will present the results to the class. 8. Students will put all work in their career portfolios. 9. Teacher will evaluate the class presentations using the rubric provided.

Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
None required beyond access to CareerZone.

Materials and Supplies:
The teacher will need: 1. Copies of worksheets for students 2. An evaluation rubric for presentation 3. Access to Internet for students to view CareerZone The students will need: 1. Access to CareerZone 2. Career portfolio

Time Required:
PLANNING: 1. A period to familiarize with worksheets 2. Time to preview video 3. Time to preview CareerZone site IMPLEMENTATION: 1. Class period for introduction and viewing of video (25 minutes) 2. Class period to review video and worksheet 3. Interest survey can be done in remaining time and as homework 4. 2-3 class periods to research career and complete questionnaire 5. 1-2 class periods to give/hear presentation

Assessment Tools and Techniques:
1. Teacher will observe student participation in discussion 2. Teacher will check for completed surveys, question sheets, and forms 3. Teacher will use a scoring rubric to assess the presentations

Reflections:
This would be a useful lesson with adults as well as students.
