| Learning Context:
1. As part of math lessons, students will solve authentic problems from varied careers. 2. They will use these problems and the resources of CareerZone to prepare an oral report on one of the selected occupations. 3. Sample questions connecting measurement of volume and use in careers is attached. This process will help develop a better understanding of the role of mathematics and of the value of education. -Students will be evaluated by the use of attached rubric. | Procedure:
Students will work individually to produce oral reports documenting the occupation of their choice and the use of mathematics. |

Students will need access to the Internet. |

Students will be given one week to produce their 5 minute report. |
| Assessment Tools and Techniques:
The attached rubric will be used for assessment. |
| Reflections:
This lesson can be used for almost any topic in math. By slight variations in the writing of the problem, different careers can be introduced. This provides an opportunity for students to make connections between life, math, and school. |
