| Comparing Careers |
| Author(s): Artis Finn |
| Grades: 7 - 9 |
| Subject: Career Development and Occupational Studies |
|
|
| Learning Context:
Students will compare three (3) careers of their choice using Choices Jr. and CareerZone. LEARNING STANDARDS: ELA #1,3 CDOS #1 HPE & HE #3 |
| Procedure:
Students will be given a packet for Career Comparison, and three class periods to work. If more time is needed, the work will be completed outside of class. The teacher will give directions and demonstrate how to use the two computer programs, give suggestions on how to find information to complete the packet, and encouragement if and when needed. |
| Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
Students may use the 3 computers in my room. A limited number of computers are available in the computer lab (depending on the number of students in the computer class that period), and there are 4-8 computers available in the media center. |
| Materials and Supplies:
Students will use provided packets and print-outs from CareerZone. |
| Time Required:
Students have 1 week to complete this assignment. |
| Assessment Tools and Techniques:
As this learning experience is used to help students engage in a meaningful learning activity at the end of the 10 week rotation, not all students have time to complete this assignment. Therefore, it is graded as extra credit. |
| Reflections:
I have found this to be a very worthwhile learning activity for students in the past. They like using the computer. We have done career reports in 7th grade and with the students being a year older, they can make some reasonable comparisons. This year I added CareerZone as a resource, which makes the information more current. |
