Career Search
Author(s): Shirley Greene
Grades: 6 - 8
Subject: Career Development and Occupational Studies

Learning Context:
1. By use of the CareerZone, G.I.S., C-Lect, and the Internet, the students will research 2 careers of their choice (one in more depth). 2. Students need to be able to gather information from a variety of sources and organize information. LEARNING STANDARDS: ELA #1,3 CD0S #1 HPE & HE #3

Procedure:
1. Using the packet that was passed out, students will work on his or her own individual career report for a few days in class. 2. Then he/she will work outside of class. 3. The teacher will help students find material, give suggestions as to how questions can be answered, and encourage them as needed.

Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
We will use the computer room and students may use the library if they get passes.

Materials and Supplies:
1. Students will be able to use the print-outs from CareerZone, other programs, and other websites. 2. We also have videos in the Computer Room that may be used.

Time Required:
After the material is gathered, the students will have three weeks to complete the Career Report. I have passed out a "sample copy" of a finished Career Report with the student getting an A.

Assessment Tools and Techniques:
The rubric on page 2 of the career packet will be used. This works very well.

Reflections:
Each year that we do the Career Report, I try to improve or upgrade the process. This year I gave a copy of the "sample copy" to each of the students. (I'll collect these to be used again when the Career Reports are turned in).
