|
| Learning Context:
Students will create a career brochure as an inside class project. This brochure will be developed using MS Word and the information will be compiled from CareerZone and at least 2 other Search Engines. Evaluations will be done from the attached rubic (see assessment section). The creation of the brochure is an artistic expression (ELA #1, #2, #3, #4, and Arts #1). In order to create this brochure, students must explore the various career options using CareerZone (CDOS #1). The brochure will demonstrate their knowledge of the workplace (CDOS # 2). Students will need to know how to properly format a brochure and will demonstrate their creativity at the same time. Learning standards used are CDOS #1, and #2, ELA #1, #3 and MST #5, ARTS #1. |
| Procedure:
Students will analyze various careers using the CareerZone website, as well as 2 other websites. They will create a brochure documenting the career of their choice with specific criteria that they must include (i.e. At least one famous person who is in the specific field: a picture, etc.) The teacher will provide the proper layout for the brochure, as well as guidance in helping to obtain appropriate information from the websites. |
| Instructional/Environmental Modifications:
Limitations to this project will be whether or not there are computer problems during that specific class time. (If there is no Internet access, the project will have to be put off.) |
| Materials and Supplies:
Students will be provided with sample brochures for their review and the computer lab for Internet access. |
| Time Required:
Planning: Students will be given one full block (80 Minutes) to research for information using CareerZone and other sites. They then will sketch a rough draft of each column/page for their brochure. They will have 2 additional blocks to design the brochure meeting all criteria and submit a black and white copy to the teacher for review. Implementation: They will receive the rough draft back at the beginning of the next block to make edits necessary. A final brochure in color is due by the end of that block. Assessment: A rubic will be used by the teacher (see assessment section below for information to be used in rubic). |
| Assessment Tools and Techniques:
The rating scale for the rubic should be a scale from 0-4, 0=No evidence, 1=Little evidence, met basic requirement, 2=Work in progress, 3=Successful, much evidence, and 4=Outstanding, WOW!!! The areas to be assessed should include: Prepared (met the deadline), Organized (material flows from column to column), Appropriate title, Appropriate picture relating to the career, Layout/Format, Appearance/Attractiveness, Name and Profile of one famous person currently in the career, and Spelling/Grammar. |
| Reflections:
Students will have vast knowledge about a particular career that they are interested in. Hopefully, this will encourage them to further explore this career on their own, by either talking personally to someone in that particular career or by doing further research on the Internet. |
