The Student Construction Association at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse is pleased to invite your school to this annual competition, which typically takes place in the spring. Groups of no more than four students per school build a balsa wood bridge capable of supporting loads applied to the structure according to the competition rules. The current record is 209.4 kg. |

The Botball Research and Design Website Challenge explores a different topic in robotics each year. Students are required to research the topic, develop a solution to a related design task, and present the results of their work in the form of a website. Any middle school, high school, home school group, or community organization may enter one team of middle and/or high school students in this contest. Marine Environmental Studies focus is on coastal marine habitats, with an emphasis on issues as they relate to global habitats and concerns. Laboratory exercises and field work include explorations along Appledore's rocky intertidal zone, and excursions to neighboring islands to observe harbor seal and seabird colonies.Foundamental scientific research methods and equipment are introduced, and each student has the opportunity to be involved in group research projects while earning 4 Cornell credits. |

The program includes lectures, field trips, laboratory work, and social activities, while exploring engineering principles to solve a specific challenge. Students visit a local rehabilitation hospital; identify the specific needs of children with brain injuries; use engineering techniques to create toys for these children; and present the final products to the children to assess the success of their efforts. |
