American Museum of Natural History - After School Program 2009 Topics range from the exploration of uncharted regions of space to the microscopic world of DNA, from the evolution of dinosaurs to the study of world cultures. American Regions Mathematics League Annual Competition 2010 American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) is the World Series of mathematics competitions. The contest is written for high school students, although some exceptional junior high students attend each year. It includes a team round, a power question (in which a team solves proof-oriented questions), an individual round, two relay rounds (in which a contestant solves a problem and passes his/her answer to another team member, who uses this answer to solve another problem), and a super relay. Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge 2009 Every year, more than 60,000 children from around the country enter science projects in one of the science and engineering fairs affiliated with Science Service. Six thousand middle school entrants are then nominated by their fair directors to enter their projects in the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge?the only competition of its kind for students in grades 5 through 8. Between June (the deadline for entering) and early September, judges choose 400 semifinalists among the entries. Exploratorium: Faultline Designed to provide some basic information about the nature of earthquakes, the site contains five primary sections. Under the Quake Basics heading, visitors can expect to learn about the basics of earthquakes, including some nice sections on plate tectonics, faults, and how scientists measure such phenomena. As the Exploratorium is based on San Francisco, visitors should not be surprised to find that the section titled Great Shakes includes information on the 1906 earthquake and the devastating quake of 1989 as well. FIRST and the Finger Lakes - Upstate New York Region 2009 This year's game, titled Rack & Roll poses a new challenge to the high school teams to design and build robots that can pick-up donut-shaped pool floats and place them on a star-like ten-foot-tall structure on the playing field. The teams have a limited six-week period to design, build and test their robots. Rochester Institute of Technology will host the 2009 FIRST Finger Lakes Regional Robotics Competition.

Team America Rocketry Challenge 2010 The Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is the world's largest rocket contest, sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) and the National Association of Rocketry (NAR). It was created in the fall of 2002 as a one-time celebration of the Centennial of Flight, but the enthusiasm about the event was so great that AIA and NAR were asked to hold the contest annually. Approximately 7,000 students from across the nation compete in TARC each year. Teams design, build and fly a model rocket that reaches a specific altitude and duration determined by a set of rules developed each year. TechXplore:A 21st Century Approach to Science and Technology Learning TechXplore is a 12-week ONLINE technology competition for middle school and high school students. Teams of 2-6 students are matched with a mentor from the fields of science or technology. The team decides on a common everyday problem to tackle, and then comes up with a new solution to that problem; a solution that either uses existing technology in a new way or uses a new technology. The team's final project is presented either in the form of a PowerPoint presentation or a website that describes the problem, the research process and the solution.

Public nature programs on a variety of topics are presented year round. Natural history exhibits featuring a diorama with native mammals and birds are housed in the museum. Watch for wildlife outdoors as you hike along one of our woodland trails. There are perennial gardens, including a butterfly garden from June to September.

This Westchester, NY location has grown tremendously. Last year, over 150 students entered projects from a total of 23 different schools across Westchester and Putnam Counties.
