Here you will find messages pertaining to the status of CareerZone. This section is updated on a regular basis.

  • 11/18/08:  College Search

CareerZone presents college information provided by an external website (NY Mentor). Unfortunately the NY Mentor site has been shut down leaving us, temporarily, without a source for college information. We expect to have a new provider shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and thank you for your patience while we work through this transition.

  • 10/28/08:  Website Migration Continued

The Migration mentioned in the previous update was postponed due to technical and logistical difficulties. The new target date is Friday October 31st.

The site will be taken offline at 5pm on Friday the 31st, for maintenance and migration to a new server environment. The site will return Monday the 3rd with an improved infrastructure that should resolve the issues being raised. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

  • 9/24/08:  Website Migration

We have been contacted by a number of users experiencing difficulties with the website. We are aware of the problem and are doing everything possible to correct them. To that end the site will be taken offline at 5pm on Friday the 26th, for maintenance and migration to a new server environment. The site will return Monday the 29th with an improved infrastructure that should resolve the issues being raised. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

  • 7/1/07:  CareerZone moves to America's Job Exchange

On Sunday, July 1st, America's Job Bank officially shut down. As a result of this shutdown, CareerZone has switched over to its successor: America's Job Exchange. We hope that you will find this new system just as useful as America's Job Bank.

  • 6/20/07:  Updates now available via RSS

CareerZone now allows users to subscribe to the What's New section via RSS. In addition to visiting the site, you can now find out about the latest system updates from My Yahoo, iGoogle or even some mail clients. Use the buttons on the bottom of the What's New page to add this content to the program of your choice.

  • 11/10/06:  CareerZone adds STEM portal

A new section of CareerZone has been added to highlight the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) field. • 2/8/05:  CareerZone 2005 is ready to be released!

The new and improved version of CareerZone will be available on Monday February 14th, 2005. In order for us to accomplish this the site will be unavailable for much of Saturday and Sunday February 12th and 13th. Every effort is being made to make the transition as smooth as possible. Techniques for navigating the site will remain essentially the same, and we will transfer your MY Portfolio accounts to the new system for you. Your existing Username and Password will continue to work, however, some additional information will be requested during your first visit to the new My Portfolio system so plan on spending a few additional minutes logging in. Thank you for your patience, we hope you find it worth the wait. The CareerZone Team

  • 9/15/04:  Service Notice

The CareerZone system will temporarily be unable to display the occupational video clips associated with the occupation profile pages. The Real Server outage is a byproduct of our ongoing system upgrade efforts. We are investigating several approaches to correcting this issue and hope to restore service soon. In the meantime the rest of CareerZone remains fully functional. Those who need immediate access to the videos can access them through the America's Career Information Network (ACINET) website at http://www.acinet.org/acinet/library.asp?category=1.2.

  • 4/21/04:  Service Notice

    Dear CareerZone Users,

As you may have noticed we were unable to release the new version of CareerZone on the dates we intended. In an effort to provide the best possible product, we have decided to improve the hardware the system resides on, in addition to the software changes we initially planned. Determining the new hardware arrangement and securing the additional funds to procure it is taking longer than anticipated, but we believe it will be worth the wait. In the meantime we will continue to support the current version of CareerZone on our existing equipment, while continuing to test the new version on our development servers. Once the new equipment is in place we will transfer your portfolios for you, so there's nothing for you to do but continue to log-in as usual. Once the transfer is complete, you may be asked to provide some additional information (e.g., an updated school name) but this will be a one-time change and then it's back to business as usual. We will continue to update you on the progress of our new release. Thank you for your continued use and support of CareerZone.

    The CareerZone Team

  • 12/4/02:  A new, completly rewritten, and revised CareerZone is coming!

The CareerZone® Team has been busy preparing a new version of NYCareerZone.org for release. Completely rewritten and revised, CareerZone® is ready for 2003! A new-look start page and updated wage and projection data are just the most visible changes. The incorporation of the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) 4.0 database, the ability to sort jobs by wages and education required, and a new link to the Occupational Outlook Handbook makes finding what you're looking for easier than ever. Even the resource pages have been improved, with updated web links and improved outputs for the jobseeker tools (including the frequently requested ability to edit them in a word processor) CareerZone® has been improved from start to finish. More exciting (to the CareerZone® team at least) are the numerous behind the scenes improvements that promise a more stable, reliable and enjoyable experience for all our visitors.

The popular 'My Portfolio' account in CareerZone® has undergone many changes and promises to be all the more useful for the more than 80,000 students currently tapping in. Each module has been updated, with ease of use and appropriateness of output being our primary concern. To better serve CareerZone® customers, a revised help/feedback system has been put in place and a searchable listing of 120 statewide trainers will be added to the website for those career development facilitators, counselors and educators seeking local CareerZone® assistance and training. The biggest news in Albany, the home of the CareerZone® Team, is the CareerZone® web site is now being hosted on AT&T servers in New York City. This represents a long anticipated move from our old sever in the Education Department at Cornell University. While we enjoyed our partnership with Cornell, the growth of the system and its resource demands necessitated a change.

A toolbar has been added on the bottom of the home pages, providing information About the system, a list of Frequently Asked Questions, the updated Privacy Statement and Finding a Trainer. The toolbar also features a Site Map to help you navigate CareerZone® with ease. The new Featured Career highlights athletes and provides an exciting interview with Giants Linebacker Brandon Short. We are looking forward to another exciting year and anticipate your feedback.
